Bears were taken around the country for entertainment in Victorian/Edwardian England, sometimes made to dance by their owners. This image from the Kisby collection was probably taken on the Suffolk coast but we know that bears were brought to Sudbury – the owner stayed in one of the cottages behind No 54 Church Street ,presumably with the bears shackled outside.
