A rare mid 19th century image taken from inside the railway tunnel and siding which once ran under the Cornard Road into the large chalk pit beyond  and the lime kilns located there .The tunnel was located roughly where  the premises of Ernest Doe in Cornard Road are today. The local Home guard used to meet for refreshments in the tunnel during WW2. The pit is now occupied by the houses in Lucas Drive.
