This street party with social distancing is in Corporal Lillie Close, named in honour of RAF rear gunner Bill Lillie. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Medal in 1940 for beating off six German Luftwaffe fighter bombers attacking his Sunderland Flying Boat as it protected a convoy. The former carpenter from North Street was killed a few months later when his flying boat was shot down over the North Sea with the loss of its crew. Bill Lillie DFM  was 21.
