The Eatanswill society in Sudbury existed to celebrate Dickens’ use of one particularly corrupt local election as the basis for the famous Eatanswill election depicted in Pickwick Papers. They dressed up in period costume, had meals at local hostelries, published their own newsheet and generally had a good time. Here they are stopping at the Fox at Bulmer for refreshment en route for the town to celebrate the Queens Silver Jubilee in 1977.
