Engine – probably located at Vanner & Fennell’s silk factory in Girling Street c1900. The chimney for a steam engine can be seen in image pa514 which is a general view of the Girling Street factory but we feel that this is probably an oil or gas engine. These mills were the second group of power-driven silk weaving mills to open in the town, narrowly beaten by the opening of Stephen Walter’s mills in Cornard Road in 1896.
