Weaving shed No 3 at Vanners Gregory Street factory. The looms and other machinery are being driven, via overhead shafts and belts, from a central engine house – a Victorian system but still in use into the 1970s. Difficult to date – probably just before or after WWI. The larger machines on the right are jacquard looms, controlled by punched cards. On the left of the shot are yarn winding frames – possibly for transferring silk from bobbins to shuttle pirns. This part of the factory is now (2010) occupied by modern warping machines with all weaving taking place in the clear span shed at the Weavers Lane end of the site.
