Gregory Street was once aligned on St Gregory’s church. When it reached the entrance to the churchyard the road turned abruptly to the right along the edge of the churchyard and then round to The Croft. This photo from the 1960s shows this old alignment which still survives as a ‘backwater’ whilst the heavy traffic pursues a straight line up to the traffic lights at The Croft. The town War Memorial now stands on the site of the sheds on the right.
