No 1 Inkerman Row in 1976 shortly before the whole row was demolished. On the left you can see Croft Road- the old fire station stood a short distance beyond this corner but is hidden by the cottage. When the fire siren went off the children would run out of the cottages to see the departure of the engine. Playford Court now occupies both the sites of the cottages and the fire station. A siren was put on top ,of the new building, presumably to warn local people of a nuclear attack.
