The Festival of Sudbury Elizabethan Fayre took place on Market Hill on June 15th 1975 as part of the Festival of Sudbury. It included an Ox Roast provided by Ruses of Long Melford. Here Brian Dowse and Henry Ruse (second from the left) watch whilst Mayor Anthony Moore carves from the carcass and Bill Niemeyer waits with his plate. (By the time Anthony was able to fight his way through the immense crowds on Market Hill for the photo the carcase was virtually bare.) The Festival of Sudbury was a Mayoral project and its organising group, which included many members of Sudbury Rotary, continued on to become the nucleus of the Friends of St Peter, set up the following year.
