The view up King Street towards Market Hill after the great fire on New Years Day 1922. It destroyed the two drapery shops of A. Baker and Son and E. Winch together with A. Branch’s outfitters and the ancient Rose and Crown hotel. Fortunately the fire did not spread to Dixon, Scott and Co. (on the left), where there were stocks of gunpowder, petrol and cartridges, nor to Wheeler’s timber yard beyond. See also pa858.
