The aftermath of the fire on January 24 1979 which started in the Sudbury Carpet Shop on the corner with Gaol Lane and spread to neighbouring properties. The corner site had been vacated a few months earlier by the old established firm of Dawson's. John Cotton's shoe shop now stands on this corner.
