One of four photos which were taken on Tuesday March 10th 1863 when the town was celebrating the marriage of Albert, Prince of Wales and the future King Edward VII, to Alexandra, the Danish Princess. ‘The nearest of the arches stretched from the four Swans Hotel across to the Mayor’s house and was decorated with ‘evergreen, the tricolour and Danish flags, chinese lanterns, flowers and a banner.’ The site of the Green Dragon Hotel on the right is now Marks and Spencer’s "Simply Food.
