Well known local teacher and artist Paul Earee in his garden- a photo taken by an American airman stationed on the airfield at Chilton during the War who had become a friend of Paul’s.

Many consider Paul Earee (1888-1968) to be the finest artist born in the town since Thomas Gainsborough. He was responsible for designing many churches and rectories whilst he worked for the Ecclesiastical Commission. Later, he was art master at Sudbury Grammar School and illustrated a number of publications. Since his death his landscapes have been described by various critics as ‘vital, adventurous and forward-looking’ expressing ‘shadowed dreams of the Stour Valley..’
