St Gregory’s bells 6

Subject: Events

Gallery: 2000 onwards

Catalogue ref: pa1338

St Gregory’s is Sudbury’s ancient mother church. The eight bells in the tower were removed for restoration in late May, 2022, lowered down through a trap door in the bell chamber and loaded onto the back of a lorry. The refurbished bells were returned on August the 15th and ringing again on the 27th. Here one of the refurbished bells is hauled up to the ringing chamber, headstock and clapper newly painted and the bell metal bright and shiny.  This image is one of several showing the sequence of events – see images pa1333-1338
