A very early photo from Bruntons when the firm was still known as Barton and Co. It shows an extremely large marine propeller of an interesting design suspended by chains in what we assume was the machine shop in Station Road. Given its sheer size it is unlikely that Bartons had the forging capacity to make the propeller but it may have come in for repair, possibly during WWI.

We have no information on the location or name of the vessel shown or on the man – possibly it is L.R. Rolfe who took over the firm c1906.
