This is the second photo from Andy Gates (see pa 1159-1163). In the early 1900s his great grandfather Thomas moved to No 1 Station Road taking over the Orbell family’s Temperance Hotel and running his photographic business upstairs whilst his own family ran the restaurant downstairs. The site is now occupied by the present Salvation Army premises. To the left you can just make out a "T" on the adjacent brick warehouse wall – lettering traces of which still survive today. It once read …………..? Beers and Stout. Note the bird cages on the wall upstairs.
